I am an artist with degrees in Fine Arts, Graphic Design, and Sculpture. The creative process has always been an integral part of my life, one I am quite passionate about.
As a young child I loved spending time outside. I wandered through fields and woods rich with inspiration. My drawings and paintings celebrated my natural environment. Even to this day, my sketchbooks regularly overflow with the radiance that surrounds me.
I grew up with severe myopia (near-sightedness). Others viewed it as a disability to be concealed. But I treasured my excellent close vision and the world of wonder that it revealed. The images I create are an expression of the splendor I have always seen.
Ultimately, each painting begins with an inspiration, a glimpse of perfection I cannot wait to share. Some represent a specific subject while others depict my interpretation of the underlying essence.
My first steps are pencil sketches, followed more boldly by ink. Next I apply multiple layers of watercolor, allowing the painting to dry between layers as I build up the intensity of the color.
Once the painting is complete, I mount it on mat board and frame it in a shadow box. Throughout the process my goal is to highlight the preciousness of the image and the nature it portrays.
I am regularly inspired by my encounters with nature.
A walk through the woods, on the beach, or even around the block, leaves me in awe.
Through my paintings I aim to share a sense of wonder with you.
How Linger Longer Studios Began
In 2016 I began experimenting with creating small paintings to capture a “snapshot” or impression of nature. I wanted to draw attention to the small details I appreciate.
Those earlier explorations were 3" x 4" paintings I sent to my family as greeting cards. Along the way, I became fascinated with the question: “how small can I render this image and still communicate the grandeur I see?” Playing with this concept, I made a happy discovery: decreasing the image size seemed to distill the joy I was trying to capture.
At 1½" x 2" the painting takes on a distinct presence -- the small size accentuating a gem-like brilliance.
